Name: PJOTA
Year: 1988
Facts: The artist reflects upon that time often as he works, now aware that he was “studying the pictorial features of the streets without realizing it.” Currently residing in São Paulo Pjota has had significant exhibitions since he was 18 years old including solo exhibits at Galeria Choque Cultural, Museum of Contemporary Art of Paraná and the Volcom Art Space, all in Brazil. Most recently Pjota’s work was included in the Paperview exhibition at the John Jones Project Space in London which brought together works on paper from three renowned London based art collections: The Zabludowicz Collection, The Lodeveans Collection and The John Jones Contemporary Collection. Early this year he presented his work in SP ARTE, the biggest brazilian art galeries fair. Walking in the White is Pjota’s debut solo exhibition in the United States (2009).

Name: Os Gemeos (Otávio and Gustavo Pandolfo)
Year: 1979
Facts: Os Gemeos are a street art duo from São Paulo, who are identical twins (which is actually what Gemeos mean in Portuguese). They’ve got quite a different style from the typical b-boy, hip-hop graffiti characters that you might be used to. They have been painting since the late-80’s. Now, they’ve traveled all over the globe, painting their stylized characters with ornate patterns and visual tricks.
